Tom Reaoch 00:00:31 Welcome to Talk 2 Brazil with Tom Reaoch, the business connector to business in Brazil. Talk 2 Brazil podcast talks with business experts throughout the world. I'm Tom Reaoch connecting people from my studio in Brazil. Joining us today from Iceland is Anna Rosa Parker, an executive coach at Nine Viti, a female and Bipoc led international leadership company. I previously interviewed Anna on Cafe & Networking, one of my other business podcasts. So, Anna, how do you recharge your mind, body and soul when you go back to Iceland?
Anna Rosa Parker 00:01:11 Yeah.
Anna Rosa Parker 00:01:12 yeah. So last time we spoke, I was in New York and now coming back to Iceland. So I have a little bit of different rituals here. like, for example, I go to the, the gym or the, the public pools. I do that every day and at the gym I work out. And what they have at the gyms here, they have a hot tub and a cold plunge and a sauna and a steam room. So you get you give yourself a little spa time after your workout. And then at the public pools open to everyone, very affordable. You can swim, you can soak, and then, you know, steam. I love that. And when you are, sweating, you are sweating out your cortisol and your negative sort of, stress hormones. So that's always a good that's very important to me to do that. I always have a little time in the morning before I go to the gym or the pools, and I do.
Anna Rosa Parker 00:02:13 You know, a little bit of language practicing.
Anna Rosa Parker 00:02:15 Like I'm studying French, so that's good for the brain. I do a little gratitude gratitude journal. And then I make sure that my heart rate, my heart coherence is, intact. So I do, heart breathing. So in and out of the heart, sort of, tone the vagus nerve balance, the nervous system. And if I do that for a few minutes in the morning, it sort of stays with me throughout the day. So I'll go back to it if if I'm in a stressful situation. For example, this morning when I was going to the gym, there was a woman who was parked in front of my car and she didn't want to move, and she was parked. She was parked illegally and I was parked legally. So I said, well, isn't it easy for you to go and, you know, and then I can get out of my, my parking spot. And this is a moment she was a little bit, you know. She was a little bit stressful.
Anna Rosa Parker 00:03:07 And I could have just gone and, you know, into a fight mode or, you know, reactive mode. But because I had just done my rituals, I was so in tune of not allowing someone to, you know, get me off my, get me off track, or, if you will, to.
Tom Reaoch 00:03:25 That's easier said than done, but I admire that.
Anna Rosa Parker 00:03:28 It is.
Tom Reaoch 00:03:28 Right. Get yourself ready for that. Because. And that's anywhere in the world. On what you just mentioned was probably more New York ish or Sao Paulo of people parking the wrong place and starting to irritate you and road rage and everything. But right. I agree with you. We have to have the mindset to be prepared for that and just not let it get to us.
Anna Rosa Parker 00:03:47 Absolutely.
Anna Rosa Parker 00:03:49 And then, you know, because of my work and, and the the framework that I've designed, being aware of where I teach people to understand where they came from and where they're going, because that helps with decision making.
Anna Rosa Parker 00:04:02 So knowing that and having really done all that work. I feel like I can sort of be comfortable anywhere. You know, I just came from Paris last week and just had a fabulous trip. but I'm always aware of sort of who I am and, and and what I want in life and how I want to treat others. And just that awareness is so important. And that is also connected to the recharging to understand who we are and being comfortable. Being alone is really important too. It's important to me to not needing others.
Tom Reaoch 00:04:38 I believe that I think the important thing, that I feel that first of all, knowing who we are. but also knowing that we are who we are. We're wherever we are. So it's not a location. It's not a geo referenced. Who we are. You are who you are wherever you go.
Anna Rosa Parker 00:04:56 Yeah, absolutely. And that's a really important to remember that and not to change. When you are in different environment, you accommodate, you know where you are, but you don't change, you know.
Tom Reaoch 00:05:08 Well, and to that, as an executive coach, you're teaching and discussing and talking with people throughout the world and in a global and a global world that we live in. executives are reaching out daily to different parts of the same world, so they have to adapt virtually to a global environment.
Anna Rosa Parker 00:05:30 Right? Yeah. And it's really whether it's you as a being, it's your brand. It's your business. understanding what your story is, as in how it started, where it came from and where you want to go, where you are now and what you're working towards. Just that sort of awareness is, is crucial for any kind of success, whether it's you as a person, you as a brand, you as your business. and it's so easy in this crowded world and, and kind of a chaotic we're all online and, and you see so much. It's very easy to sort of just see what other people are doing and make decisions based on that. If you're not doing this kind of a work, but if you're doing the work, if you understand where you want to go, what your goals is, it helps you make authentic decisions to you and your business, which is very different than reacting to life or reacting with your decision making based on what's around you.
Anna Rosa Parker 00:06:29 So having this sort of a core at all times, via travel and work is, is crucial for for success.
Tom Reaoch 00:06:37 I'm looking at your your website now and they're right front and center. You you mentioned the Framework of Evoke. yeah. It gets to that point, the catalyst that unlocks your authentic power, right. And crystallizes your identity. so that's part of what you've just said. Yeah. Authenticity. If we know who we are and if we can transmit who we are. That's the authenticity.
Anna Rosa Parker 00:07:03 That's it. Yeah. And, you know, I work with people when they day. I worked with individuals like that and then also with executives and teams. But what I do find is when people are starting to really understand their story or the story of their business, and they start to make different decisions, there's more confidence in all of this. And what also happens is that the people around them are threatened by authenticity, which I find very fascinating. They see a change and they don't know what it is.
Anna Rosa Parker 00:07:33 So they're like, what's going on here? A little poking.
Tom Reaoch 00:07:36 Well, I see that because today there's so much fake out there. I mean, I think it's really hard to identify authenticity anymore.
Anna Rosa Parker 00:07:44 I think it's very easy to identify authenticity, actually. the, the sort of opposing. I think we can see through that and sense through that and listen to the energy, whether it's online, you can sort of sense the energy around it. You know, there's a lot of yeah, a lot of posing and, and sort of a forced storytelling. but if you just tell your story and you understand how your business started or where you came from, and the more authentic and real that is, people are more attracted to that sort of a truth, authentic storytelling versus when something is just put on stage, you know, sort of a forced or not authentic. Yeah.
Anna Rosa Parker 00:08:32 And we're going to be important for you.
Tom Reaoch 00:08:33 How important for your recharging then is going back to Iceland.
Anna Rosa Parker 00:08:38 Oh, it's very important.
Anna Rosa Parker 00:08:40 Yes, absolutely. Especially living in New York City. you know, which is a very busy, city and people everywhere. When I'm here, I always go to nature as well. So that's. I didn't mention that earlier, but I try to get a hike in at least once a week, if not twice. take, like a two hours. Just hike the mountains. And the luxury here, which I find pure luxury, is the pure nature. And you're often alone or with your partner or a couple of friends in a mountain, and there's no one else around.
Anna Rosa Parker 00:09:12 Just a couple of sheeps. Nobody.
Anna Rosa Parker 00:09:14 Literally nobody. And that you cannot charge any. Any more than that. You know, when you're completely. Connected to nature and you don't sense any energy of other people around you. That's where we get a little bit sometimes confused, because it's almost as we grab ideas and energy around us, but go into nature. It just sort of, reinforces who you are and what your, your thoughts are and your decision making and just your pattern as a human being.
Tom Reaoch 00:09:48 And what I've seen and looking in not only for this podcast, but just curiosity of trying to learn more about Iceland. Everything that I do see is just beautiful and there's so much it's not one thing, there's just so many things you know, that you can see and do in Iceland.
Anna Rosa Parker 00:10:05 Yeah, absolutely. And it's it's kind of like two different countries almost in two different seasons. So I tend to be here for a lengthier time and summer, and then also in winter. And so now it's like we have the midnight sun. You can do all the. You know, a lot of hiking and exploring the nature baths and the the tubs and the steaming. That's all day. I mean, every day of the year. But the hiking is is more accessible and summer and the and like I said, there's the midnight sun. People tend to be lighter in spirit here. We love nothing but good weather and being able to sit outside and dine and have a glass of wine outside that's very like praised here.
Anna Rosa Parker 00:10:49 People love that kind of, you know. Then we feel like we're in a different country because we really are just sort of a country, folks. We're Vikings. We didn't have culture, so to speak, of until much later, you know.
Tom Reaoch 00:11:02 Well, you had cultures just. Yeah, other people call it something else, that's all.
Anna Rosa Parker 00:11:07 That's right, that's right. Yeah. The Vikings definitely had their own culture for sure.
Tom Reaoch 00:11:12 And part of that was exploring, going out and finding things. And I think in today's world, sometimes we have to get up and go and find other things in other places, and that's in business.
Anna Rosa Parker 00:11:24 Right? Yeah. Yeah. It was so very, yeah. Exploring and and surviving was, just on their agenda, I guess.
Tom Reaoch 00:11:35 The surviving has become even more important in business. atmosphere. Yeah. Really? Said the strong survive. But, I think many times we see the those that are ready that know themselves as a company. Back to your original point of you know who you are.
Anna Rosa Parker 00:11:52 Who you.
Anna Rosa Parker 00:11:53 Are.
Tom Reaoch 00:11:53 Yeah. Helps you survive.
Anna Rosa Parker 00:11:55 Absolutely. And then the form of storytelling, that's one of the first sort of skills we had. And, you know, our Netflix of the, the, the olden days was, you know, people lived and and slept in the same room, you know, at the farms. And there'd be one person reading stories at night before people were going to bed. Right. So. Yeah. And now when I take I don't teach only the storytelling of of yourself how to create your own story or, or live your story actively and and authentically. I also teach, executives how to use storytelling as, delivery in meetings, to start meetings with the storytelling, to deliver new information in a narrative versus just piling on a bunch of information because our brains are more adapted. They they receive narrative in a much more successful way. And our memories, connect with narrative telling. So it's a good way for business leaders, a good tool to use.
Tom Reaoch 00:12:56 I agree with you.
Tom Reaoch 00:12:57 I'm that type of person. In many business meetings, when anybody opens up and starts out with a spreadsheet, my mind is bogged down. I really can't understand what I, what I'm looking at. And we need something. I need, personally, something to help, you know, get my brain to kick in and change gears.
Anna Rosa Parker 00:13:18 Yeah, to connect with information, to connect with the person speaking. And then, yeah, it's it's it's very simple form and, and I believe we should practice this more and also in schools. You know.
Tom Reaoch 00:13:33 I agree, but in many meetings I've been in, you know, everybody has five minutes to make a presentation. So they just dive right into the, the the data.
Anna Rosa Parker 00:13:41 Yeah. But you can tell data in a storytelling form.
Tom Reaoch 00:13:45 No, I agree with you. But the majority of persons don't do that.
Anna Rosa Parker 00:13:48 Right.
Anna Rosa Parker 00:13:49 Right.
Tom Reaoch 00:13:50 So and to that for me just to start understanding of what's all the data is the five minutes is up and you're not really sure what you've even heard.
Tom Reaoch 00:13:56 So but yeah, that's the point. Now to leadership also and what you do, you say you're obviously your focus is in leadership, towards women to Bipoc as well to anybody, anywhere.
Anna Rosa Parker 00:14:12 It really is, if it's a good fit, you know, I, I, was going to work, you know, more with women or, you know, smaller businesses, but it's really what the business is to meet them where they are and what they need. And sometimes it's just not a good fit. And then that's okay. But there's always a discovery call and sort of a, you know, it's almost like an interview or like a first date to see if it's a good fit. I never take anyone on except in until we have had spent a lot of time, just like how you and I are doing right now. Just sort of see where they are, what they need, what they're looking for. and then we go from there.
Anna Rosa Parker 00:14:51 Learning all.
Tom Reaoch 00:14:52 The story. Right?
Anna Rosa Parker 00:14:53 Yeah, exactly.
Anna Rosa Parker 00:14:54 And see what the what kind of story they want to want to tell, what their, what what their problems is. We always, you know, you're always solving a problem and, and elevating and just taking things to the next level that those two things are important.
Tom Reaoch 00:15:11 Very good. Well, how can our listeners find you to to share their story and to learn more about you?
Anna Rosa Parker 00:15:17 Yeah. My website and Rosa parks.com. And then I'm on LinkedIn under my full name as well. And then I have a little Instagram account. I'm just trying out Evoke method and look at that as well. And yeah just reach out through those platforms.
