station The Sounds of Brazil, Scott Adams is a recognized national radio
personality, a publisher, journalist and innovator in the promotion and
marketing of Brazilian music and culture to US audiences.
His achievements have been chronicled by The Chicago Sun
Times, The Chicago Tribune, Crain's Business, The Miami Herald, and by
Brazilian newspapers O Globo, and Mao e Messagem.
Mr. Adams is a multi-year recipient of the Brazilian
International Press Award, which honors excellence in the promotion and
advancement of Brazilian culture and the Arts. He has received Letters of Merit
from several US state Governors Offices for his service to Brazilian
communities nationwide.
Adams has partnered with many of the top entertainment
companies in the US, including ABC Radio, AccuRadio, Citadel Broadcasting, CBS
Radio, Gross Communications, IHeartMedia, Live365.com, Luxwer Networks, Milor,
Yahoo.com and others help to manage broadcast and programming activity for
Brazilian music.
In 1992, Adams launched the weekly, commercially-syndicated
radio show ‘The Sounds of Brazil’ in Chicago (WDCB, WNUA) before expanding its
affiliate list to include 55 US markets.
Adams has been praised for his innovation in programming
Brazilian music for audiences worldwide, consistently raising the bar by
breaking ‘new’ Brazilian artists. This focus has led to ratings success in the
competitive arena of commercial radio: The Sounds of Brazil has been regularly
been ranked #1 for adult listeners by Arbitron, the US radio ratings
organization.
In 1993, Adams began publication of The Brazilian Music
Review a quarterly magazine with a subscribed readership of 20,000. As a
journalist, Mr. Adams has held the position of Special Projects Editor with
Jazziz magazine and has written on Brazilian music for Playboy and Arte
magazines.
In 1996, Adams conceived Connectbrazil.com, a music-based
retailer for Brazilian music which incorporated music reviews, cross-cultural
editorial content and listener support for The Sounds of Brazil’s national
radio audiences.
In 2000, Adams accepted a consulting position for national
marketing & media with the Broward Center for The Performing Arts in Fort
Lauderdale to develop its annual ‘Brazil Night’ program. Internationally
recognized for its innovation and quality of presentation, he helped to expand
the Broward Center’s public and commercial profiles. The program’s success resulted in the
establishment of the Broward Center as the first official ‘Points of Light’
location by the Brazilian government in 2006. Adams served on the official
presentation committee with Minister of Culture Gilberto Gil, Secretary Célio
Turino, Secretary Sergio Xavier, and Antônio Grassi, President of FUNARTE,
Brazil’s National Foundation of Art and US Ambassador to Brazil, Ambassador
Donna J. Hrinak.
Also in 2000, Adams was tapped by Yahoo.com as its Internet
Radio programming consultant for Brazilian music and was recruited for a
similar partnership with Live365.com in 2004.
Adams has combined these resources to form the basis of his work with
the marketing and promotion of Brazilian culture and music in the United
States, having represented Grammy winning musicians and with successful
private-sector projects for a variety of businesses in the US, Brazil and
worldwide.
In 2004, Adams curated the complete English-language
translation of the biography of Brazilian singer Elis Regina, ‘Furacão Elis’ by
Regina Echeverria (1985) by giving it a protected and permanent online home.
In 2006, Adams published the white paper, ‘The Four
Essential Elements of Brazilian Radio’ which served as the keynote address for
the Radio forum at the 1st Brazilian International Communication Seminar in
Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Today, it stands as a definitive statement for the
advancement and positioning of Brazilian music as a cultural mainstay.
In 2007 Adams joined with Nu Groove Records to create Points
South Music, an artist-directed label for Brazilian music. Points South also
represented Rio-based label, Albatroz Music for the US market. Results included
a Grammy award winner for ‘Best MPB Album.’
In 2011, BrazilClubUSA.com debuted as a social networking
directory in support the Brazilian/American community with more than 1,550
listed businesses, organizations and entrepreneurs.
On Thanksgiving Day, 2014 The Sounds of Brazil made its
official launch as an “always ‘Live’” streaming radio station, with a
5,000-song library and utilizing broadcast industry-standards and practices
from its digital studio in Chicago, Illinois. The worldwide stream posted its
10th consecutive quarter of double-digit growth in 2015.
In July 2016, The Sounds of Brazil celebrated its 16th year
of streaming radio by partnering with Chicago’s AccuRadio.com to program one of
the network’s fastest-growing channels, ‘BossaNovaville’, and Adams was named
Brand Manager for Brazilian music programming, which today has grown to a
network of 15 unique channels under his direction.
2017 marked the 25th broadcast anniversary of The Sounds of
Brazil. The yearlong celebration has included a partnership with Copa Airlines
for the return of the ‘Fly Me To Brazil’ Giveaway plus the addition of Orlando,
Florida’s radio affiliate for The Sounds of Brazil, on Brasil Radio AM/FM, the
US radio gateway for Brazil’s Grupo Bandeirantes.
June 21, 2018 saw the return of Connectbrazil.com as part of
BrazilClubUSA.com’s rebranding initiative. Changes included a robust blog
platform plus repositioning of Brazil Club’s directory services to focus on
Lifestyle marketing: “Music, Travel, Friends & Fun.”
Today, Adams oversees the advancement of Brazilian music and
culture as a unique gateway for B2C clients with the resources of a dedicated
staff, trendsetting technology and greater than 30 years of experience from
which to draw.
